Took it easy last night; was supposed to be run then swimming, but after Monday nights flu revisit, I thought I better take it cool.
Sabrina, Shaun & Dylan stopped by after Dylan's swimming lessons; they asked us if we would be Dylan's God parents! We definitely accepted, and felt very honored that they asked us! His baptism is February 25, after we get back from our trip. So guess this means that we get to spoil him with no excuses?!?!
After supper Brent and I ran a few errands; we're having an international dinner night this Friday with Adam & Lacey, and Sabrina & Shaun. We're hosting and it's GREECE... (I've always had a soft spot in my heart for Greek food after working as a waitress at Mr. Bill's for a year after high school). We're responsible for the appetizer and meat course; Sabrina & Shaun are doing salad and dessert, Adam & Lacey are doing a potato dish and the drink. I'm doing lamb Slovakia, and spanakopita. I had wanted to do saganaki, but couldn't find the right cheese in Lloydminster, (surprise, surprise!).
This morning I hopped on the bike for an easy, getting back into the swing of things, ride
Tonight is supposed to be a ride w/ the tri group then boot camp again... I'm a little cautious of that boot camp since it kicked my butt on Monday... I'll play it by ear!

Last night's Boot camp didn't go too well...
Lori (tri-coach), had promised to punish me earlier yesterday when she called to tell me that everyone was going to do their bike workout at home then meet up Holy Rosary School's gym for boot camp.
I thought it would be smart to skip the bike workout, and just do the boot camp since I just got over the flu. The smart thing to do would have been to completely take the day off...
we had ten rounds of:
stairs x 3, one lap of running track, stairs x 3, 20 walking high knee lunges, then push-ups on bosu ball/burpies/bosu squats...
I made it to round nine, where it was the second time we did 20 x burpies... i nearly threw up after 11. That was it for me; I gave up. I was so close to throwing up that it was all I could do to keep it down until I drove home and make it to our bathroom, where I battled another round of the flu for a couple hours. This time I was able to keep a gravol down long enough for it to take effect. Only thing now is that I have a gravol hangover...
So I think I better keep it cool the rest of this week...I can't imagine doing that boot camp AFTER doing a bike workout... but don't worry, Lori promises next week I'll find out!

Sick again this weekend!
Dad and I went to the city this past Saturday. We had planned to do a bit of shopping, (dad is in the market for a new travel trailer), then go to Kendra's hockey game. Half way through Cost-co I got really sick. I manged to refrain from throwing up until we got to Kendra's house, but once there I barley surfaced from the bathroom. Dad went to Kendra's game without me, thinking that we would leave when it was over, but I wasn't able to go more then 15 minutes without throwing up. We ended up staying the night... and it was a terribly long night. Thanks to Dad and Kendra for looking after me. I don't think it was food poisoning, Dad and I had the exactly same things to eat that day... must have been a bug that I picked up.
Sunday morning we got back home around 10 am; I had a long bath, then went to bed. Brent's little brother, Jamie, who's living with us until his house gets finished in February, has been sick w/ tonsillitis for the past week. His mom and dad ended up taking him to the ER yesterday b/c his medication isn't doing anything... Bunch of sick-ies in our house!
So needless to say, I didn't get anything in for workouts this past weekend. Yesterday I struggled to eat anything... crackers and ginger ale were the foods of choice. I'm so badly dehydrated right now!!!
Tonight is supposed to be cycling & then boot camp w/ Lori. I'll see how it goes! I might bow out after cycling.

...20 Days till we leave for our honeymoon!!!
Got up this morning to do my bike, but I cut it short to do a half hour of stretching. I was having some major leg cramping at swimming again last night; in fact I haven't had one swim yet where I didn't get foot and/or calf cramps... Might have to start drinking Gatorade 1/2 hr before. I'm really at a loss as to why I'm having so much trouble with this.
Brent and I are heading to the gym tonight for a easy run, then weights. I hope we get there right after work as the gym has been nuts later in the evening- 7 pm on.
Another reason why I love Brent so much... He doesn't give me shit for trying to do what some people would consider too much; he just lets me burn out and break down and then he's there to catch me when I fall!
on a side note: Why is it if a company is having trouble keeping it's employees, it's not obvious to look at the people doing the hiring in the first place; or the managers??? Clearly there's something wrong with all the people doing the leaving.

Slept in this morning. I think I'm still hanging on to a bit of my cold; a couple people at work mentioned that I sounded sick again...
Triathlon club has moved around; Monday and Wednesday are now cycling and then boot camp workout. Tuesday and Thursday are running then weights. So Tuesday and Thursday are now going to be VERY busy with swimming after the Triathlon club... I think I've totally wrote off my co-ed soccer team, which plays on Thursday nights.
Brent's mom and dad were here for supper tonight; they put up new blinds we had bought for our kitchen and Brent's brother's room downstairs. We're s-l-o-w-l-y renovating our house. Next on the list is to up grade our lighting fixtures in the kitchen and living room. A big project next fall is to completely redo our main bathroom, and the kitchen counter top. Right now were redoing the easy and cheap things; paint, blinds, etc.
Heading to the gym soon. Just think I'm going to do weights tonight, as my throat still does feel a bit sore.

Had quite a busy weekend... Lots of running around and house cleaning! Friday night we went to Adam and Lacey's for cards. Saturday night was to Shaun and Sabrina's for supper. Today Brent and I took my grandma's out to the farm, then we went snowmobiling for a good part of the afternoon. We took some pretty cool pic's and if I can ever figure out how to post them I will!
Brent's mom and dad got home this afternoon from their two week Holiday to the Dominican Republic. They spent their second week in the resort we are going to in the middle of February, so we couldn't wait to hear about their stay. As I said before I'm so excited our suitcases are already packed!
Before supper I strapped on my 305 garmin that Brent gave me for Christmas and did the 6.05 mile run from his parents farm to my parents farm. Today it only took me 45 min, but I have yet to down load all the info on to the computer... the run felt good though and I was trucking it! And (thank goodness), the wind wasn't blowing!
I'm supposed to go to swimming tonight but I think I may wimp out. I feel really tired; I think the run took more out of me then I realized! I've got half an hour to make up my mind... I think the couch is winning though!

Friday!!!
Another week gone by, another week closer to our trip! Less then a month now!
Last night was busy! Brent dropped me off at the gym on the way to his hockey game. The cardio equipment was nuts! So I gave up on getting a hill work out in; there aren't any 'hills' in the city of lloyd to train on, so if I can't get on the treadmill, I'm out of luck! There are lots out on in the country near mom and dad's farm, so maybe I'll incorporate a few into my LSD run tomorrow. So I did a 45 min back and chest workout focusing particularly on my back where my "to be personal fitness trainer sister" told me I needed to work on...
"you need to work on your serratus anterior, and your rhomboids, because you have winging scapulas, this will help your back a lot as well. So start with a seated row until you get your rhomboids strong and then move to a standing row, you man have to bump the weight down when you do that, but don't get discouraged when you do, you will soon be back up again. Then you can move to the bosu ball. But start with that and then we will see where you have to go from there. "
After weights I ran home, got my swimming gear and ran to the pool. I shouldn't have been complaining about the intensity of the swimming workouts! Last night showed me just how poor my swimming strength and fitness has diminished...
WU = 10 x 75 (kick, drill, swim) & 100 swim
MAIN = 5 x 100 (on 145s)
100 kick
5 x 100 (on 140s)
100 kick
5 x 100 (on 135s)
CD = 150 swim
I totally got my butt kicked on the 135 s; I only held it for the first 2 x 100m then it turned into a continuous swim; I just couldn't pull my arms any faster through the water, without sacrificing my form, but there wasn't any strength left either! I was glad when that set was over. I ran home and fell asleep on the couch waiting for Brent. I was so exhausted this morning I didn't even attempt to get up and do a bike... just slept in.
Tonight Brent and I are going to the gym right after work for a shoulders work out and easy run. After we are going to our friends Adam & Lacey for cards. Tomorrow Brent is going skidooing and I've got to do the next step on our wine, then to Sabrina & Shaun's for supper... Busy, Busy! Hopefully I can fit a LSD run in there!

Here's to Hoping
Last night and today I've gotten two new possible job opportunities... but I don't want to ruin things so I'll keep the details to a minimum until anything comes of them...
Tri club last night was really good; Speed work out @ the indoor running track at the multiplex; 15 min warm up, then 20 laps (1 easy, 1 build, repeat), then a lap of 4 x full out sprints, then 10 min cool down. I'm not sure of the distance, but the work out was 55 minutes. I kept up with the fast guys for the entire workout so I was happy with myself. After the run we did a full body circuit training, but I really didn't get a lot out of it, so next time I think I'm just going to do my own weights.
Tonight it's hill work out, then back/chest for weights. Brent has hockey tonight so I'm running to swimming and back home... Better eat a good supper!
Got to see my nephew Dylan and Sabrina at lunch; he's grown so much in the last two weeks! He just turned 4 months and can sit all on his own! It's so neat to watch a baby grow when you're so close to them. It's really neat even just to watch Sabrina and Shaun around him, and how Dylan's eyes light up when he sees them. Too cool!

back on track
Last nights run and weights then swim went really well! Actually surprisingly well! I just did a steady 8:30 min/ mile for 30 min, then 30 min of weights; bi's & tri's. I was wondering if I would be burned out for swimming, but I got to the pool and felt really strong in the water. I'd say that I was back on track, but I wasn't on track to fall off it in the first place! We had a IM work out and I was able to do all the fly, strongly, but that's because the guy that leads our lane likes to take A LOT of rest! TOO MUCH rest! But he's leaving in February, so hopefully the pace picks up then! I am having a lot of cramping in my legs while swimming... I've never had this before so I hope that it will go away with more laps under my belt!
I found out some really crappy news last night about my work and how I'm getting shafted at my job... I'm so frustrated! There is so much favoritism going on, and they try to keep it from me, which drives me nuts! Needless to say I'm hunting for a new job. Maybe I should move back to Edmonton? My old boss keeps offering my job back to me...
Tonight is probably going to be another gong show. We're supposed to go to my sister's for supper and check out their new vehicle; I've also got tri club at 7pm... hopefully we can fit it in!

90% Recovered
Well, Finally back at work; and back to feeling 'almost' normal. I still have a cough that likes to show up in the middle of the night when I'm sleeping, or when I try to run. To night is supposed to be a run w/ the Triathlon club; hopefully I can get through it without coughing. Then later I'm back in the pool for the first time in over a week. This morning I managed a bike without coughing so that's encouraging! Last night I just did a core workout at home, letting my lungs recover one more day.
I've been reading a book called "The makers Diet"... very interesting read, but I'm just in the beginning chapters...
I'm such a loser... when I was sick at home last week I decided to take out our suitcase and started packing for our trip! I shouldn't have done that because now it's going to seem longer before we leave!

Week Wrote Off

Well this week has been completely wrote off; I have been off work and in bed since Tuesday night. I dragged my butt into work this morning b/c I got the impression that my boss thought I wasn't sick enough to justify staying home the past 2-1/2 days, let alone today as well. so here I suffer.
I feel like I'm totally losing all my fitness; when we had the blizzard on Wednesday I had to shovel out our front door because there was 4 feet of snow in front of it; Brent and his brother Jamie would have had trouble when they got home, so I spent 20 minutes clearing out right in front of it; my arms were so week I could barley lift the shovel! Pretty sad! Hopefully by Sunday I'll be well enough to go to swimming.

Blizzard and Cold have Arrived
Well I didn't manage to put up a very good fight against this cold; I left work today at noon and didn't come back. I don't feel much better to be honest. My cough is a lot worse at work b/c everyone runs heaters under their desks and it really dries out the air; I start coughing and don't stop. So not much in terms of working out; I attempted a bike this morning, but gave up... no swim tonight either...
8.1.07
Here come the sniffels...
I've been feeling the beginnings of a cold coming on the past 2 days... my throat has been so sore that I haven't been able to drink as much water as I normally do, which probably isn't helping my cold situation. I got up and biked this morning, but it wasn't the most inspiring workout... I basically struggled through it to put the time in.
Last night: managed a 45 min core work out in our basement as our nosey neighbours spied on me... weirdos; then I ran to swim practice, had a much better swim workout then on Thursday, then ran back home. Swimming has been coming a long surprisingly well. I realize now how much more I enjoy swimming with a club where we have the entire lane pool vs. public lane swim;
1) No more crowding 10 people into 2 lanes
2) No more people over estimating their swimming ability and hoping into a "fast" lane when they really shouldn't be there... and even worse, try to speed up when you go to pass them.
3) No more creepy old men trying to grab me under the lane rope and trying to plan my exit of the pool when he's not looking.
But this club has no were near the talent that NAIT master's club did; my college coach Jeff Riddle and his buddy Regan Williams used to tear up the lanes at NAIT on Saturday mornings; they literally embarrassed me out of the pool. I believe that Jeff's 200 m fly record still stands at the U of A. I currently swim in the fastest lane w/ the Lloydminster Master Club, and from who I've seen so far, there's only 2 people faster then me; but I hope to change this soon!
Anyways I felt really good in the pool last night; I didn't cramp up at all, and was able to hold my stroke, and not let my technique fail. but I'm not posting any times... just another solid 2700 m effort.
WEEKEND RECAP:
Friday Night we managed to get a easy run in, then a really good arms work out... Brent was sore still today!
After that we went to Brent's cousin's 40 bday party. It was nice to see some of his family we didn't see through the Christmas Holidays. Another of Brent's cousins' is build on a huge addition to their cabin at the lake this spring... I can't wait for the summer; especially because Brent's dad just bought a new boat as well! Brent and I were talking about what we would get for our one year anniversary, and I think we came to the conclusion that a new wake board would be a great idea!
Saturday we headed to the city to meet up with one of my good friends from Enbridge, Carmen. We had a great time catching up and I gave her some wine that we had just finished making; she was going to take a few bottles into the office for a bunch of my former co-workers; I got my sister Amber to make me up some copies of the labels we used for our wedding.
We took a few Christmas gifts back, then made our way to OPM, to have supper with my Uncle Andy and Paulette. I had never been to OPM before but it was really nice, and the food was great. We had a really good time watching the bartenders make Mojito's, then trying them ourselves...

It's NOT about me...
I had myself a real pity-party last night when I got home; I really dislike my current job. I have been applying for and going to interviews for other positions with different companies, but I never have the experience they are looking for. I'm so frustrated because I know I could go to Calgary, have a job in one day, and make more then double what I am now...
But I am also forgetting everything that is great and wonderful in my life; my husband, my home, my family, my health... as Joyce Meyer put it this morning; if you know you're going to heaven you should be the happiest person in the world. I guess I've come to realize that maybe I need to seek work in a different profession altogether. I'd love to run my own business... but what exactly would that be???
Last night was my first time in a pool since July. I wasn't too anxious before hand; I know I have fitness, just not swimming fitness. we ended up doing 2750 m, and on the last set; 6 x 150 m, I really started to struggle; my feet and calves were cramping up like crazy, and I had nothing left in the tank for strenght. My arms we're like cooked spaghetti, but my heart rate was low, and I was never out of breath... the catch of my stroke just had nothing left!
I woke up this morning and got Brent up so we could do measurements and weight ourselves. Using a template I downloaded my estimated body fat percentage is 24.28% (which seems so high especially compared to Brent's 17% and him being out of shape), and my BMI is 20-3/7. On to my morning ride which flew by as I watched sportcenter and that amazing play in the Oilers game last night;
from edmontonoilers.com (YOU MUST SEE THIS!!!)
"Even if you saw it, you wouldn't believe it. Patrik Stefan had the game signed, sealed and delivered. He had a breakaway on an empty net with 10 seconds remaining in the game. But then a funny thing happened.Stefan whiffed on the backhand attempt, then slipped and fell. Jarret Stoll looked up at the clock quickly and realized he didn't have much time left so he threw the puck up to Sykora. Sykora then found Ryan Smyth dashing up the ice and as Smyth skated towards the side boards he managed to pass it to Ales Hemsky streaking up the middle. Hemsky deked out Turco and put the puck in with 2.0 seconds to go. The Stars ended up winning the shootout but the Oilers were able to salvage a point in a game that was going largely their way for the majority of the evening. At one point, Edmonton had a 4-1 lead but the Stars scored four unanswered markers to move in front 5-4."

Unneccessary Self-Inflicted Stress
Managed to sleep in this morning... my alarm was supposed to go at 4:45 am so i could get up and get a bike in. I usually set the actual time on my alarm 10 fast, (a REALLY bad habit I picked up from Brent), so i have time to hit the snooze once. But I managed to turn my alarm completely off when I hit the "snooze" this morning and when I finally rolled over to look at the time I though someone was playing a really sick joke on me, as it read 7:55... talk about PANIC! I raced around the house like a maniac and managed to get to work at 8:05. Why, why, why do I do this to myself; there was only one other time that I slept in for work...
I was exactly one day past my 3 month probation with Enbridge; sleeping in way past 9 am, beginning to stir and think about what I was going to do with my day.... Suddenly the phone rings and my Manager's Name comes up on the ID; instant dread kicks in... I've done something wrong. "Megan, did you know you were supposed to work today?" the answer is obviously "No, or I would have been there!" Add that one to the stupid question list. So I rushed into work and felt like crap all day. What I couldn't get past is that if i was supposed to be at work between 6:30 & 7 am, why didn't anyone call me at 7:30??? why wait until 9??? I thought that was really rude, so I made a deal w/ my good friend/co-worker Jocelyn that if we even get the slightest inkling that one of us has slept in, call them sooner rather then later. And I must say that one day it did work for Jocelyn, and no one knew other wise!!
So I missed the bike I had planned for this morning... seems to be the trend this week! But I did get a really good tempo run in last night; I held 7:30 min/mile or higher for the last 20 minutes of my 30 minute run. Then had a good lifting workout back/chest.
If I can get a hold of the adult swim coach today, I plan on getting my first swim in since i moved to Lloyd back in September! If not I'll be at my soccer game. Brent is supposed to got to the gym w/ me tonight so we'll see how everything is going to work out... right now there just doesn't seem to be enough time!

Bandwagon, here I come!
So, I'm succumbing to the ever popular world of blogging... Never thought I would, but a series of events has lead me to this moment;
1) Moving away from Edmonton and a lot of my friends
2) Being too lazy to write and call (the wedding thank you cards just about killed me! I'm all card/lettered out)
3) I have been inspired by my buddy Shannon's web page; I've kept up w/ him and his wife for a couple years now; mostly through his web page, (sorry if my Internet lingo isn't correct).
4) Publicly hold myself accountable to triathlon training...
Speaking of which; there wasn't much for training last night; Kendra's Ooks were in town for an exhibition game against U of S; NAIT put up a good fight being a full line short, but ran out of steam in the third; and let a 1:1 game turn into a 4:1 game for the Huskies. Kendra put up an honest effort; as she should with half the country side there to cheer her on! We could barley get near her w/ all the reporters fighting for an interview with her afterwards! Newcap news promises to have a full game report tonight!
After that I managed to squeak in a 30 min core workout at home while I waited for Brent to get home from the Oiler game with Shaun. It was well past midnight by the time I got to bed, so I wrote off this mornings bike before my head hit the pillow. Hopefully I can pull off a high paced tempo run and an inspiring back/chest workout tonight!
