Motivation...

From my best-good friend (who's giving me the a$$-kicking I need)...

"We are the choices we make. So think long and hard before making them. When you choose to make a firm commitment - to yourself, or to another- proceed with integrity and resolve. A commitment carries power AND responsibility, Respect it. If you decide to go "all-in" then do it with total abandon. Give it everything that you have inside, even when it challenges you most.
Make no apology, Have no regret. You will gain much more than you could ever lose. Be comforted, knowing that your commitments are a meaningful part of self-discovery and personal growth. Gain satisfaction in knowing that you stayed solid to the end. Relish in a profound sense of tranquility, confident you will never have to withstand the sting of regret when looking back over the landscape of your life and seeing it littered with unrealized dreams or the best of intentions."

Day 6; Stretching- Later

Either something is VERY wrong w/ me, or I need to go to bed at least 2 hrs earlier... I'm totally bagged right now... I was riding around w/ a guy at work this morning and I fell asleep a few times; while we were even having a conversation (don't worry I wasn't behind the wheel)! Thank goodness for mirrored sunglasses. Even driving home from work has become a battle!

Tonight is a ride w/ Dean, then Brent and I are going to hit the pool.

How old am I vs. How old do I look.

Just been accused of being 19 today... a couple weeks ago I had to show my I.D. to my co-workers b/c they didn't believe I was 26... thought I was 20... I'm not complaining; When I'm 40 I hope I get accused of being 33!

Way too much going on the past few days and not enough time for training... Getting back on the horse today. Have to go to Brent's parents for a BBQ tonight after work; plan right now is to run over to mom and dad's when we're getting ready to head home.

I also promised to make stretching a goal this week b/c my knee cap is tracking and my pelvis is tight... so today is day 1.

PILATES = 50 MIN
STRETCHING = 10 MIN
RUN = Yeah, sooo didn't happen...

Will the weather hold?

Possible ride outside tonight... if the 40% chance that it won't rain holds!

Last night had a really good long run after supper; for the first time in days it quit raining and dried up just enough. Darn near perfect conditions even with the light breeze, the sun just started setting too fast on me! By the time I ran from Brent's parents farm to mom & dad's it was getting a bit chilly... at least for the way I dressed!

Tomorrow is Friday, but it won't be much of a days off; up to the city Wednesday and Thursday, back to work Friday, Saturday, Sunday. Monday's off; then back to my 8 days on... It will be worth it come summer... I have July 20th to August 7 off... and only used one vacation day! Gotta love mutuals!

Going to take Amber out for her birthday to the New Asian Village on Wednesday... my most favorite restaurant!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMBER!!!

Hope you have a great one and the v-ball tournament goes well!

Last night on the trainer my bike started falling apart... well not really but it's need of some upgrades... my seat has been slowly oozing the gel out of it since Sylvan lake 1/2, 2 yrs ago when it poured rain for 70% of the race; last night i couldn't handle it any more... hopefully when I get up to edmonton this week I'll have time to stop in and get a new seat, and rear tire, and more tubes, and cleats... the list goes on and on... perhaps I should just get a new bike... not a bad idea!

Tonight is out to farm for supper then get a run in afterwards...

Motivation Issues

I have totally been struggling w/ training; esp, triathlon specific training. Lots of different excuses; My tri-club workouts I can't make when I'm on shift. I've also got a new bike partner who I don't want to ditch either. I've made some HUGE dietary changes this past week; some permanent, some temporary... but carbs have been limited in the form I usually consume them.
Kendra figures I'm showing classic signs of over training, but I haven't been training that hard lately... I think it's just plain old motivation... and my lack of. I've kind of had to figure out a new training schedule for my work shift... I'll test it out and see how it goes this week.

MORNING RUN = 30 MIN
BIKE = 45 MIN

Monday, May 14

RUN = 35 MIN

ouch, ouch, ouch...

This past weekend has been v. bad in terms workouts, but v. good in terms of wine drinking and visiting!!! Yesterday I had to babysit my cousins Luke and Gabe after work; it was so nice outside we spent the entire time on the playground and riding around Budmiller Park. I think we could still be there throwing rocks into the lake had I not shut it down!

I got home around 9pm and did a core/weights workout for 75 min... I think i was trying to make up for the bad weekend! I put in a good hard effort, and now I'm thinking too hard as i can hardly climb stairs today!

Hoping to get in a quick bike tonight after work as Brent's taking me on a date; we'll he's bribing me with supper so I will go with him to see spiderman...

Tornados...

The tornadoes in Kansas sparked my interest in looking up Black Friday, the tornado that hit Edmonton July 31, 1987. I was seven when it happened and can totally remember it being all over the news. This year will be 20 years since it happened...

Check out the links. CBC has an original broadcast... amazing.

THE NEW RULES FOR DRIVING IN LLOYDMINSTER

1. You must first learn to pronounce the city name, it is: "LLOYD MIN STIR"

2. The morning rush hour is from 5:00am to noon. The evening rush hour is from noon to 8:00pm. Friday's rush hour starts on Thursday morning.

3. The minimum acceptable speed on the ring road is 130 kph. On the Yellowhead, you are expected to match the speed of the airplanes coming in for a landing at the airport. Anything less is considered "Wussy".

4. Forget the traffic rules you learned elsewhere. Lloydminster now has its own version of traffic rules. For example, cars/ trucks with the loudest muffler go first at a four-way stop; the trucks with the biggest tires go second. However, SUV-driving, cell phone-talking moms ALWAYS have the right of way.

5. If you actually stop at a yellow light, you will be rear ended, cussed out, and possibly shot.

6. Never honk at anyone. Ever. Seriously. It's another offense that can get you shot.

7. Road construction is permanent and continuous in Lloydminster. Detour barrels are moved around during the middle of the night to make the next day's driving a bit more exciting, but nothing ever gets finished, and more construction starts everyday.

8. Watch carefully for road hazards such as drunks, skunks, dogs, cats, deer, barrels, cones, cows, horses, cats, mattresses, shredded tires, garbage, squirrels, rabbits, crows and coyotes feeding on any of these items.

9. The Yellowhead, Ray Nelson Drive and "Hwy #16" are the same road.

10. If someone actually has their turn signal on, wave them to the shoulder immediately to let them know it has been "accidentally activated."

11. If you are in the left lane and only driving 110 in a 80-90 kph zone, you are considered a road hazard and will be "flipped off" accordingly. If you return the flip, you'll be shot.

12. For winter driving, it is advisable to wear your parka, toque, fur lined mittens and mukluks. Make sure you have a shovel, food, candle and blankets in the vehicle, as snow removal from the city streets is virtually non-existent until the spring thaw.

13. Lanes will suddenly appear if you need them. Should someone in front of you attempt to make a left turn in your lane, it is perfectly acceptable to drive onto the shoulder or even into ditch as needed to get by. Driving down Hwy 17 south of the Yellowhead any time of the day will allow you to witness many of these events.

14. Don't expect the "walk and don't walk" hand signals at intersections to actually work or help drivers determine if lights are about to change, like you may find in other cities who have actually employed civil engineers.

15. Those big machines you see 'pretending' to clean the streets were purchased from Weyburn Saskatchewan back in 1974 when they upgraded their street sweepers. Note to city aldermen- some city's actually 'remove' the crap off the streets, instead of just blowing it up into the air so it can settle back down 15 seconds later.

16. If you are caught walking, biking, or another kind of physical activity near/on a road, you will be harassed, swerved at, spit on, and possibly shot, unless you are a half decent looking girl.

17. Don't even bother trying to find something by street/avenue directions- they are completely ass-backwards.

***I almost didn't marry Brent b/c I knew I'd be driving in conditions like this every day.

rain, rain, go away...

Last night I headed to the gym (b/c of the rain), thinking I would get a run in on the treadmill then possibly some weights... seems like everyone in Lloyd had the same idea. I got there a little after seven and it was packed, even when I left 2 hrs later... Yes, that's right 2 hrs later and all I got in was a back/chest workout... I believe I have turned into a gym rat; I spent more time talking then I did working out! Maybe I should become a snob and not talk to anyone so I can get my workouts in...

One of the trainers at the multiplex is telling me he's trying to get some new equipment so he can teach a plyometrics class in the fall- I told him to sign me up if it goes through... sounds interesting!

More rain forecasted for today... Mom and Dad are coming for supper so I probably end up fighting w/ all the other gym goers after supper or just hop on the trainer... we'll see!

Back to the grindstone...

Back to work today... Didn't accomplish as much as I had hoped on my days off, but the day's were relaxing, and got a lot of visiting in. I'm not a betting person, but $20 says Dylan walks unassisted before June. On Sunday when Brent was out rock picking I was at mom's w/ Sabrina and Dylan. I got there when he had just gone down for a nap; when he woke up Sabrina gave him to me and we just cuddled for 10 minutes b/f he returned to the busy boy he usually is. Sabrina told me in the morning when he wakes she just lays in bed with him and it's the best part of her day... I don't doubt it!

Tonight is a planned bike w/ Dean; I'll see if I can convince him to do the 4 mile road loop... He's been sick lately so we'll see how it goes; I'm hoping to turn it into a brick workout with a run afterwards to Budmiller park and back.
