Stupid Weather...
Back to crappy, cold, snowy weather... this Saturday there was a glimmer of warmth- it got up to 0C! However Brent was working so by the time he got home it was crappy again. I had hopped that it might be nice Sunday and considered, possibly, maybe leaving Matt at my mom's and going for a run after church on Sunday.
Sooo didn't happen... the wind picked up and was pretty crazy so I opted to watch the curling skins game in front the fire place w/ dad. I would make fun of curling but I tried to do it in high school and there's definitely a lot of talent that goes into it. Before you make fun of me for curling, just know that my high school consisted of 60 people and we were guaranteed a day off from classes if we formed a girls team to go to counties... so four of us who hadn't thrown a rock b/f jumped at the chance, and I was the unlucky person to be named skip. Every other end was really good... good b/c i could see my dad in the stands and he could let me know which arm to raise for an in-curl or out-curl (I think that's what they are called). The other ends of the rink I couldn't see him so 50% of the time told my teammates the wrong curl. Not that it really mattered; I think one of my teammates wore those chunky heels that were in fashion at the time... Heels and curling ice don't really mix.
Does shoveling count as cross-training???

Dumb training
Shannon has made me cross eyed with all his posting about threshold, lactic acid, wattage, pie R squared...
However last night while I was on the treadmill it occurred to me that I may not be as dumb as I thought...
MEGAN's ACRONYM TRAINING
PE; Perceived Effort
RHRT; Random Heart rate Training
EOWHRT; End of Workout Heart rate Training
PWUWD; Post Warm-UP Workout Determined
DIT; Delayed Interval Training
example.
Last night after weights I jumped on the treadmill and PWUWD that it would be a tempo run. my PE confirmed this as I felt like I was easily working at 75% effort. My EOWHRT was 170 (thanks to the handle bars on the treadmill) which confirmed the effort... Had I remembered to bring my Garmin I would have had a RHRT run, since I don't hardly ever wear it running... or make that biking & swimming either... I'm a solid PE Triathlete. When I got home the snowplow had come past our driveway making it impossible to actually get into our driveway, So I dragged Brent outside and w/ our shovels and I managed to squeeze in a DIT!
So Shannon, put that in your pipe and smoke it!!!

Cabbage leaves, mint tea... and cornstarch!
Not a recipe, but staples in my life as of lately...
CORNSTARCH; Lloydminster has approx 25,000 to 30,000 people living in it, yet when your dr. takes holidays and the walk in clinic is closed your only option for dealing w/ a sever diaper rash is to take your baby to the emergency... yucky, germ filled emerge. And of course your are going to be on the bottom of the pile, even if you were there first. I have really gotten a lot of use our of the Alberta health link number for determining if I need dr., emergency or I'm just insane, since Matt was born. However they told me that the only thing I could do if my dr is on holidays and I can't get into anyone else and the walk in is closed... go to emerge. So Matt and I did, and we waited 3 hrs (like I expected), only for the dr. to write me a prescription but tell me cornstarch will work just as well if not better... Cornstarch??? I wasted 3 hrs plus another waiting to get a prescription filled, only to have cornstarch work better then the medication... now why couldn't health link just tell me to try that???
CABBAGE LEAVES & MINT TEA; Most of December I was wearing ice packs on my chest and taking as much Tylenol as I safely could. After I would nurse Matt I would ache and be SO sore I wouldn't even be able to not focus on the pain. I thought he was biting me, but after a call to my lactation dr I discovered that I was drying up... now I've never been an over producer, but after 30 min on the pump I only got 1 ounce... usually 20 minutes would give me 5 ounces. Of course this all occured over Christmas so by the time I got in to get some medication it was too late. But that didn't mean that I didn't have super engorged chest for the past 5 days... but it is coming back to normal... thanks to stuffing my bra w/ cabbage leaves and drinking liters of mint tea. who knows if they are actually helping or not. But I must confess that I've never really enjoyed breastfeeding, and honestly am glad it's over... I feel like I have myself back, if that makes any sense.
On another note, I'm signed up for Sylvan! I'm already visualizing running across the finish line with Matt!
oh yeah, other resolutions are to floss and take my viatmins every day!
